For the longest while the belief in Allegany County is that there was a ready, well qualified workforce in place, but no jobs available. In recent years local officials say they are learning that just the opposite is true. Following a series of round table discussions with area manufacturers, Paul Kelly, executive director of the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation, says the feedback he is receiving is that there are plenty of jobs available, but not enough qualified or interested people to fill those vacancies.
