The Cumberland Economic Development Corporation has sent a letter to area businesses with information regarding a variety of resources available during the current COVID-19 situation.

Dear Members of the Allegany County Business Community, Your local economic development team recognizes the tremendous impact that the Coronavirus (COVID-19) is having on Allegany County businesses. Already, we have seen you adapt, come together, make tough decisions, and show incredible generosity during these very uncertain times. Please be assured that we are working with our state and federal partners to address COVID-19’s impact on your business. There are many resources that may be helpful to you which you can access by clicking on the underlined text: Maryland Department of Health: For health information about COVID-19, including background of the virus, virus prevention, identifying high risk citizens, and frequently asked health questions. Additional health partners/resources: Allegany County Health Department, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, and UPMC Western Maryland The Office of Governor Larry Hogan: For information from Governor Hogan’s Administration about its COVID-19 response, including breaking news and live updates regarding business, school, and government closures. Maryland Department of Commerce: For answers to frequently asked business questions related to COVID-19 and information about employer and worker assistance, financial assistance and taxes, licensing, and permitting. Maryland Department of Labor: For answers to frequently asked questions about unemployment insurance benefits, temporary lay-offs, and discharges. U.S. Small Business Administration: For SBA disaster assistance in response to COVID-19, including information about low-interest federal disaster loans for working capital to small businesses suffering substantial economic injury as a result of COVID-19. Allegany County Tourism: For up-to-date tourism and travel information, including, event postponement and cancellations, destination and attraction availability, and restaurant carry-out and delivery options.
