Cell phone traffic system in place

August 11th, 2011 by WCBC Radio

WBAL reports the state is offering drivers a new system to check on road conditions. The 511 system is now up and operating.  The State Highway Administration has been using the internet to post traffic delays, accidents, construction delays, and other bottlenecks on the state highway system.  But this one requires dialing 511. As opposed to 411 for phone listings and 311 for nonemergencies like reporting potholes. One small hitch. Drivers must have hands free systems to connect or else they're breaking the law in Maryland against using hand held cell phones
