Too many local people still see Cumberland as “The Queen City” but it isn’t any more. It will never bounce back to a glorious and prosperous future for ourselves and our children. It will remain a backwater, rural area. Isn’t that the way it’s promoted on the County Tourism site?
The Chamber hopes someone from outside will see us for what we are and accept the position as a last posting before retirement. They will go with the flow and not question things such as the need for 2 high schools for a constantly declining student population.
A local, homegrown Superintendent might try to fight for the future that’s not going to occur.
