Citizens group fighting to save Washington Street Bridge

August 1st, 2020 by WCBC Radio

A citizens group urging the City of Cumberland to save the Washington Street Bridge will hold a press conference on site Wednesday August 19th.  According to a press release the event has been scheduled to call attention to the absence of progress the replace the bridge on historic Washington Street. The bridge has not been fully open since 2012 and has been struck three times since then by CSX trains. The city has been in negotiations with CSX about possible repairing or replacing the bridge, but apparently no firm plan has been agreed too at this point.

Come people, be patient. It’s only been 8 years.

Come on people. You just need to accept the fact that CSX wants those bridges GONE. Do you really think it is an “accident(s)” that trains are hitting the bridge?. No way in H…, as there has been a concerted effort by CXS to eliminate them, to accommodate the double deck trains. And now they have the local leadership aligned, and the public is now accustomed to navigating around them after all these years. Maybe you can get some souvenir pieces at the demolition.

It is telling that the local residents of some means and sense realize that local officials are lying when they say they are committed to getting three bridges working. Piss away $241K per unit on welfare housing and bugger those who pay the taxes.

This stuff has been happening all over America for decades now- i.e. Big Corporations screwing over the public and with the help of corrupt local pols of BOTH parties. This is why ‘Merica is well on it’s way to becoming a 3rd world s–thole, as the Clown would say.
