City Increasing Investment In Maryland Avenue Revitalization Project

Cumberland's mayor and city council Tuesday voted unanimously to approve the first reading of an ordinance that will revise the city’s investment in the controversial Maryland Avenue Revitalization Project. In December the city approved a $2.5 million funding package to redevelop a portion of the Rolling Mill- but for a number of reasons that has now been upped to $3.5 million. The plan calls for the purchase and razing of 60 homes between Park Street and Maryland Avenue and Cecelia and Williams streets. After the properties are demolished, a restaurant and businesses will be constructed on the site.
