City Approves Rolling Mill Block Party Request

There has been no love lost between the Cumberland Mayor and City Council and the Institute for Justice Group that is representing those residents of the Rolling Mill area holding out and not selling their homes. That wasn’t an issue however when the group requested approval from the city for the residents of the Rolling Mill neighborhood to hold a block party in September. The city received a letter from Meghan O'Connor, activism coordinator for the Institute for Justice, requesting the closure of Emily Street on Sept. 23 for a block party. The Institute for Justice, a Virginia based national public interest law firm, is working with the residents of the Rolling Mill who oppose the demolition of homes in the neighborhood. In the past the city, particularly Mayor Brian Grim has been a strong critic of the firm when the Rolling Mill project has been debated…
