December 1st, 2015 by WCBC Radio

The city of Cumberland’s longtime comptroller resigned on Monday,  effective immediately. Joe Urban has held the position for close to ten years, but informed city administrator Jeff Rhodes on Monday of his decision to retire. According to sources the decision by Urban, 63, was due to personal reasons and not job related. Rhodes told WCBC News that he was surprised at the abruptness of the resignation, but understands Urban’s decision. Cumberland Mayor Brian Grim tell WCBC News that there is an experienced staff in place in the city’s budget and finance department, and as a result he doesn‘t anticipate any problems resulting from Urban’s sudden departure
