City Continues to Gather Applications for Downtown Manager Position

June 10th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Deadline to submit applications for the downtown mall manager position is June 18th and interviews are expected to begin later this month.  The position has been vacant since the end of last year when Mikalya Dodge stepped down. Since that time Downtown Development Commission chair Sandra Saville has been handling the bulk of the duties. The search for a replacement was an agenda item Tuesday for both the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation and the Cumberland Mayor and City Council. During meetings, CEDC executive director Paul Kelly said a full-time downtown manager is critical with businesses facing challenges from the coronavirus outbreak and with planning continuing on the renovation of Baltimore Street.  Kelly said the salary range being considered is from $40,000 to $70,000 and will largely depend on the qualifications of the individual who will be tasked with handling the wider scope of responsibilities that the position will now carry. The DDC has allocated $45,000 for the job- and the city of Cumberland could be asked to complete the funding package…

Mikayla was “hated” out – she didn’t step down.

      > She was knocked up and about to deliver! She stepped down! The position isn’t a cozy job. REAL work must be done in that position. However, I’d advise anyone to stay far far far away from it. You will be micromanaged and scapegoat when its convenient for either the city or county when it comes to their failures.

In my opinion they hire someone worth 40K you will get the type of management we had in the last manager. Talent takes money. Leave it to the CEDC to hire someone above the budgeted salary and then leave the city holding the bag. How high has the Mall Redevelopment price tag gone? And how much is our funding still underfunded? Thanks CEDC!
