City councilman ready to seek county seat

June 20th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

Cumberland City Councilman David Caporale turned speculation to reality Tuesday when he told WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” that he will be a candidate for Allegany County Commissioner in the 2018 election.  Caporale, if elected as a county commissioner, would vacate his current seat on the city council in mid term.  Caporale would join a growing list of republicans said to be interested in running for county commissioner in next years primary.  All three incumbent commissioners Jake Shade, Bill Valentine and Creade Brodie Jr have indicated they will seek re-election, with Valentine having already filed. In addition former board of education members Tom Striplin and Jeff Metz names are in the rumor mill- with Striplin’s decision to switch parties from democrat to republican last year fueling speculation he will run. He has run twice before as a democrat, and lost both times by narrow margins with many believing only his party affiliation kept held him back.  Other names in the rumor mill include Chamber of Commerce executive director Stu Czapski.
