City Letter Prompts County Response On Financial, Other Issues

September 21st, 2017 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Mayor and City Council sent a letter to the Allegany County Commissioners this week, asking for financial and other help with a number of issues.

The City wants the County to move forward with consolidating EMS Services by July 1, 2018 and is requesting the assignment of two deputies within the city on a 24/7 basis.

Two issues dealing with Allegany High School were raised, one asking that the county help fund improvements to Seton Drive, Braddock Road, and Bishop Walsh Drive, and the other asking that the county move quickly to raze the existing Alco once the building has been turned over by the board of education.

The letter also wants to revisit the tax differential debate.

The commissioners approved a response, drafted by Administrator David Eberly, which says the county’s fund balance is a result of making tough financial decisions, and for the county to make commitments without having corresponding revenue to offset them would put the county in dire financial straits in short order.
