City Man Held on Utah Avenue Assault Charges

On Saturday at approximately 8:00 PM, Cumberland City Police was dispatched to the 200 block of Utah Avenue for an assault.

Upon arrival officers contacted the victim who advised they were thrown to the ground. The victim stated the suspect grabbed a large knife and threatened to stab them. Officers observed injuries to the victim and learned the suspect had fled prior to their arrival. Officers located the suspect, Richard Alan Nair III a short distance away and placed him under arrest without issue. 

Nair was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance. Mr. Nair was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.

The victim did not require medical assistance. 

Arrested – Richard Alan Nair III (21) Cumberland, MD

Charges – Assault 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, Dangerous Weapon with Intent to Injure, and Reckless Endangerment
