City Officials Begin Search For Public Relations Firm

June 24th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Cumberland city officials have begun a search to contract a public relations firm to help increase communication in an effort to better serve the public. The topic of communication was covered in a special work session held earlier this month. Several citizens attending recent sessions of the city council have asked for an improved line of communication on local issues. While WCBC Radio and the Cumberland Times News routinely attend and provide coverage of city council meetings; and press releases are issued by the city on a regular basis- the feeling is that the city should become more proactive in getting its message out. While both Allegany County and the Board of Education employ full time media/communication directors- the city has not had anyone filling that role for some time. Not everyone is enamored with the concept- including Terry Murphy, president of the Washington Street Association…

None of the elected officials or the others who raise our taxes, fees, and service charges have ANY problems communicating that info to the taxpaying citizens of Cumberland. During their campaigns, once again NO issues speaking.
COME ON, don’t waste the taxpayers money!!

NO,NO! What a colossal waste of taxpayer money.
This idea was floated to the City by McClarran and Williams about 10 days ago. Now, suddenly the City is looking for a PR firm They, the City, listened to what they were told they needed by the very people who are willing to sell it to them. If the elected officials of Cumberland are that gullible I have some bridges that they can purchase cheaply.
For the City to fall for this hype certainly makes them look like gullible fools who will reach for any shiny thing that’s put in front of them.
Please, they have to have more sense than this.

I’m sure that everyone knows by now that Cumberland will search for a Public Relations firm no matter how stupid the idea may be.
Their search will be exhaustive but they will finally choose the ONLY PR firm in Cumberland, McClarran and Williams, the same people that told the City that they needed to hire a PR firm.
Their presentation, (McClarran and Williams) was designed to show the City how convincing they could be, and it seems to have worked.
If we can talk you into hiring us we can convince the residents of Cumberland of whatever you want us to. Black is white? Up is down? No problem, leave it to us bubby!

      > Exactly! a ‘search’ my arse. It’s already a cut & dried deal to hand over money to Williams for his B.S.
