City Officials Meet With Representatives From CSX Transportation

Cumberland City officials met recently with representatives from CSX Transportation continuing talks to see three West Side bridges replaced and reopened- and while slow- progress is being made according to Mayor Ray Morriss. The three bridges, long believed to have been owned by CSX, are on Fayette, Cumberland and Washington streets are all in various states of disrepair- and have all been closed for an extended period.  For any number of reasons the Washington Street structure provides the most challenges- however the mayor says the most recent talks have centered on a long term- yet temporary solution, with the bridge being rebuilt. The Cumberland Street Bridge project is the most advanced- but the mayor doesn’t anticipate any actual construction to begin there until later in 2020.
