City Police Make Assault & FTA Arrests

On Saturday, Cumberland Police responded to a Valley Street residence for the report of a domestic disturbance. 

When officers arrived, contact was made with the complainant and a male identified as Joseph Westley Garris.  Officers learned by talking with both parties that Garris had been drinking for most of the day and prior to the police being contacted, Garris allegedly slapped the complainant causing her nose to bleed.  Evidence of the assault was witnessed by officers and Garris was placed under arrest. 

He was transported to the Cumberland Police Department for processing and then to the District Court Commissioner for a bond review.  Garris was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center held on a $5,000 bond.

Charge:  Assault 2nd degree.
Held on $5,000. 

On Saturday, Cumberland Police served an arrest warrant on Nicholas Craig Moreland.  A bench warrant was issued by District Court on March 22nd, 2018 when Moreland failed to appear for trial to answer to the charge of littering/dumping over 100 pounds.  He was taken before the District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center held on a $250.00 bond.

Charge:  Littering/dumping over 100 pounds.
Held on $250.
