City Police Make CDS And Theft Arrests

January 29th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

On Sunday, January 28th, 2018 a Cumberland City Police Officer was on patrol in the Marion Street area when he observed a vehicle matching the description of one that was giving out earlier as involved in a theft incident.  The officer contacted the occupants of the vehicle, Christopher Adam Johnston and Timothy Walter King.  The officer was also aware of CDS activity in that area so, the officer obtained consent to search both Johnston and King and the vehicle to search for evidence of the theft.  The officer immediately observed a sliver-in-color pipe concealed in Johnston’s shoe when he stepped from the vehicle.  The pipe contained suspected crack cocaine residue which was identifiable by the officer.  A continued search of the vehicle revealed a number of pills identified as Tramadol, a controlled narcotic that neither Johnston nor King had a prescription for.  Both were arrested and transported to the Cumberland City Police Department.  They were later taken before the District Court Commissioner and released on their own personal recognizance pending trial.

On Sunday, January 28th, 2018 the Cumberland City Police responded to Sheetz store on Greene Street for a shoplifting complaint. When the officer arrived, he learned from store employees that the suspect had already left the area.  The officer, with that assistance of Sheetz, reviewed surveillance footage of the subject taking several items out of the store without out paying for them.  The officer recognized the suspect as Michael Thomas Shipley Jr. of Cumberland.  The total amount of the items taken was approximately $18.00.  The officer during his patrols a short time later was able to make contact with Shipley and place him under arrest for the theft.  He was issued a criminal citation and released pending trial.
