City Police Make Multiple Arrests Wednesday

On May 9, 2018 at approximately 1:35 PM the Cumberland Police responded to a residence in the 100 block of Arch Street for a disturbance.  Police learned Nicholas Andrew Tabler and an adult female had been involved in an argument earlier in the day. During the argument Tabler grabbed the female victim by the hair and dragged her up a set of stairs.  He then grabbed her by the throat and pushed her down onto a piece of furniture. The victim had injuries consistent with how she described them to have occurred. Further investigation revealed Tabler had put clothing belonging to the victim into a bathtub and poured bleach on them, causing them to be damaged.  Tabler was placed under arrest and charged with 2nd Degree Assault and Destruction of Property +$1000.  He was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was held on $,5000.  He was taken to the Allegany County Detention Center pending his next appearance in District Court.

Theft Arrests

On May 9, 2018 at approximately 7:45 PM the Cumberland Police responded to the area of a White Oaks Avenue business in reference to a suspicious female who was trying to sell stolen property.  When police arrived they encountered Mary Concetta Yoder and found her in possession of numerous items. Police were able to determine some of the items were stolen from a nearby business. Yoder was arrested and charged with Theft $100 to $1500.  She was issued a criminal citation and released pending trial in District Court. Additional charges are pending in this incident.

Less than three hours later at approximately 10:34 PM police responded to a business in the 400 block of Maryland Avenue for a theft complaint and the suspect had left the scene.  Police arrived and were able to view video surveillance of the suspect and were immediately able identify the suspect as Yoder. Police searched the area and located her on Park Street.  She was found to be in possession of items from the business and was placed under arrest without incident and charged with Theft under $100. She was taken before a District Court Commissioner where she was held on a bond of $1000.  She was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center to await her next appearance in District Court.

Charges:  Theft $100 to $1500 and Theft under $100

Warrant Arrest

On 05/09/18 the Cumberland Police served an arrest warrant on Norma Lee Younger.  The warrant charges Younger with Bad Check <$1500 for an incident that occurred in October 2017.  Younger was taken before a District Court Commissioner where she was released on her personal recognizance pending trial in District Court.

Burglary Arrest

On May 10, 2018 at approximately 2:38 AM the Cumberland Police responded to a business on N. Centre Street for a burglary in progress.  When police arrived they located Christopher Jason David Moore at the rear of the business. Moore was placed under arrest and charged with Attempted 4th Degree Burglary and Disorderly Conduct.  As police were conducting their investigation they were aware of two other burglaries that occurred in the area the night before, including one at the same business where Moore was located in this incident.  Police learned items that were stolen from the N. Centre Street business the night before were in a residence where Moore was living on Hanover Street. Police responded to that residence and were able to recover those items that had been stolen.  As police were searching the residence for the burglary that occurred in the N. Centre Street business, they observed items they recognized to possibly be stolen from a different burglary at a S. Centre Street business, also the night before. Investigation determined those items were the stolen items and they were also seized.  Throughout the investigation evidence was collected and witnesses were interviewed. Moore was charged with the following charges for the three incidents: Attempted 4th Degree Burglary, Disorderly Conduct, two counts of 2nd Degree Burglary, two counts of 4th Degree Burglary Storehouse, two counts of 4th Degree Burglary Theft, and two counts of Theft $100 to $1500.  Moore is currently awaiting a bond hearing with the District Court Commissioner.

Charges:  Attempted 4th Degree Burglary, Disorderly Conduct, two counts of 2nd Degree Burglary, two counts of 4th Degree Burglary Storehouse, two counts of 4th Degree Burglary Theft, and two counts of Theft $100 to $1500

Disorderly Arrest

On May 9, 2018 at approximately 11:26 PM the Cumberland Police responded to the area of Queen City Drive and Baltimore Street for a fight in progress.  When police arrived they found a man and woman in the area. The man, identified as Henry Ernest Simms III, was yelling at people on Queen City Pavement and refused to listen to officer’s commands to stop.  He was placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct. A search incident to arrest revealed CDS paraphernalia on his person. He was issued criminal citations for Disorderly Conduct and Possession of CDS Paraphernalia.    Simms was released pending trial in District Court.

    Reports like this show the wisdom of the Councilman who suggested that the town needed a population transfusion.
