City Preps for Major Snow Event

December 16th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland area is projected to experience a significant winter weather event with heavy snow predicted to begin Wednesday afternoon.
The City is asking residents to use caution and be prepared for significant snow accumulation, and to also be patient with City crews as they work to
clear roads.

"The predicted characteristics of this storm are the most difficult conditions that City crews encounter,” said City Administrator Jeff
Rhodes. “The City is well equipped and prepared to deal with the storm, but the rate of accumulation will present a significant challenge and we
ask for the public's cooperation and patience as crews deal with the storm."

The City will have twelve plow trucks available and departments are near full strength, despite the pandemic. Crews will be working as fast as
possible to keep roads clear throughout the duration of the storm. "With the potential for 1 to 2 inches of accumulation per hour at times, the
snow will likely accumulate faster than it can be removed which will present very difficult conditions until a break occurs in the rate of
snowfall," added Rhodes. The City thanks residents in advance for their cooperation and patience as we encounter the first significant snowfall of the winter.
