After hearing from dozens of citizens opposing fracking at recent meetings, the Cumberland Mayor and City Council on Tuesday took a small, but important action that was greeted with enthusiasm by those attending the session. While not approving a resolution in support of a statewide ban on fracking as has been requested, the council did terminate a contract with Samson Resources Company which signed a deal in 2010 allowing for the use of city water for hydraulic fracturing purposes.
