City to Close Portion of Riverside Avenue; Business Owners Voice Objections

After hearing arguments on both sides of the issue, the Cumberland Mayor and City Council this week voted unanimously to close a portion  of Riverside Avenue. The request came from Grow West, a medical cannibas company with operations on the site of the former Kelly Springfield plant at the Riverside Industrial Park.  Representing one of the businesses opposing the road closure was attorney Matt Gilmore.  His main arguments centered on the road closure not being for the benefit of the public welfare..
