City To Meet With CSX Next Week To Continue Negotiations On Future Of Bridges

September 4th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

A week from today Cumberland city officials will sit down with CSX Transportation representatives   to continue negotiations on the future of the West Side bridges. On September 18th, a week later, the city has scheduled a special public meeting to address the subject- providing an opportunity for anyone with questions or comments to be heard.  Large crowds attended two separate meetings last month with standing-room only crowds voicing concerns regarding the Washington Street bridge closure. A meeting of the Washington Street Association was held the day before the regular Cumberland City Council meeting at the end of August with rumors circulating that talks between the city and CSX Transportation could result in the demolition of the Washington Street Bridge with no replacement structure planned. They fear the main focus is on the other closed West Side bridges on Fayette and Cumberland streets.  Mayor Brian Grim has clearly become frustrated with some of the criticisms  coming from  Washington Street residents- primarily being accused of “doing nothing” to resolve the years old problem…
