City Votes To Increase Preference Discount For Local Contractors

The Cumberland Mayor and City Council this week voted to increase the preference discount for local contractors from 7 to 8 percent. The move will help local companies by reducing their bid on paper by 8 percent. City Administrator Jeff Rhodes said that the local preference is only used for calculation purposes, adding that it doesn’t actually affect what you charge. Rhodes said the local preference improves the chances of local contractors for landing jobs when competing against large out-of-area firms…
