College to Community Partnership Center at Allegany College

July 12th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Allegany College of Maryland (ACM) invites regional community organizations to be part of its newly revamped College to Community Partnership Center, formerly ACM’s Office of Service Learning and Civic Engagement.

The College to Community Partnership Center (CCPC), allied with ACM’s The Democracy Commitment (TDC) Committee, is designed to support and promote the invaluable work of community partners by connecting them with ACM students, staff and faculty.

The newly named College to Community Partnership Center developed from the committee’s decision to apply for the Carnegie Foundation's Classification for Community Engagement, a gold-standard nationally recognized classification that focused on civic and community engagement.

In seeking the Carnegie Foundation classification, the college completed an intensive self-assessment of its community involvement activities. It sought advice in the form of in-depth surveys from existing community partners, including but not limited to: the Allegany County Board of County Commissioners, the American Red Cross, Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority, the Cumberland Mayor and City Council, the Family Crisis and Resource Center, Frostburg State University, the NAACP Chapter #7007, The Family Junction, the Western Maryland Health System and the Western Maryland Mission of Mercy.
