Columbia Gas rate hike hearing set for Cumberland

The Maryland Public Service Commission will hold a public hearing in Cumberland July 20 related to the application of Columbia Gas of Maryland for a $6.5 million increase in its base rates. 

The meeting will be held in the Ramada's Crown South Boardroom and begin at 7 p.m.

The utility provides gas distribution services to about 33,000 customers in Maryland. Under the rates as proposed, the total bill for a typical residential customer would increase more than 21 percent
