Commission In Process Of Reviewing School Construction Policies

A Maryland commission appointed last year is in the process of reviewing school construction policies in the state and will offer recommendations to the General Assembly on ways to address the needs of the state’s 24 school districts. The last time the state undertook a comprehensive review of its school construction policies was in 2004. School construction has been a hot topic with Governor Larry Hogan and Comptroller Peter Franchot during recent Board of Public Works meetings. Each has asked pointed questions of David Lever, the executive director of the state’s Public School Construction Program, about how state school construction dollars are spent. Locally the cost of the new Allegany High School project generated much debate as originally it came in well above projections.
