Commissioners Approve Utility Rate Hike

Based on the recommendations of the Allegany County Sanitary Commission- the county commissioners voted last week to approve a utility rate increase as part of the fiscal 2017 budget. Utilities division chief Mark Yoder noted that the majority of the utilities budget is fixed- including  water purchase, electricity, fuel and debt —and there is little that can be done to offset those. Yoder said the utility rate increases include a $2 per quarter across the board sewer rate increase, or about 67 cents a month, a $3 per quarter increase to the Braddock Run sewer surcharge, and a district water rate increase of $1 to $2, or 33 to 67 cents per quarter…
