Commissioners Begin Budget Process With $1.5 Million Shortfall

The Allegany County Commissioners will begin the FY 2018 budget process with an estimated shortfall of $1.5 million- but Finance Director Jason Bennett says the news is not all bad. The biggest hit to the budget, like most operations, comes from soaring health care costs- with the county expecting a 16% increase for next fiscal year- with a million dollar price tag. Bennett says that preliminary indications from the state is that the county will not be too badly impacted by any reductions in funding- and he says the county has a relatively health reserve fund balance to help offset the projected deficit…
