Commissioners Contemplate Lawsuit Against Board of Ed

Its not just school security that has the Allegany County Commissioners and the Board of Education engaged in heated debate these days- as now the commissioners are considering taking the board to court over a separate issue. During Thursdays public commissioners meeting, it was  revealed that the county is considering a lawsuit against the board of education over the exclusion of Commissioner Bill Valentine, who serves as an ex-officio member of the board, from executive sessions.  An ex-officio, or non-voting, member of the county commission sits on the school board and the county maintains that the non-voting member is entitled to sit in on executive, or closed sessions of the board as well, except in cases of a conflict of interest.  At its monthly meeting last week, the School board decided they won’t permit Valentine to sit in on any executive sessions, which are also closed to the public and the media as well.
