Commissioners’ Fellowship Program

Today, Allegany County Government announced the selection of students from Frostburg State University and Allegany College of Maryland as the first ever participants of the Commissioners’ Fellowship Program. Effective June 11, 2018, Cranston Carter Imes and Samantha Vega will be joining Allegany County Government during their summer break. Both students are residents of Allegany County.

 

“We are thrilled to have these two talented students join Allegany County Government this summer,” commented Brandon S. Butler, County Administrator. “This program is yet another way that the County Commissioners are continuing to invest in workforce development.”

 

The Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved the launch of a new program providing summer internship opportunities for students at Frostburg State University and Allegany College of Maryland at its March 22, 2018 public meeting. The program, which is a partnership with Frostburg State University and Allegany College of Maryland, provides real-life work experience for students attending these institutions of higher learning.

 

The County received a large number of applications from eligible students for consideration. In order to be considered, the student must be attending either Frostburg State University or Allegany College of Maryland; must be a rising Junior or Senior (or have at least 30 credit hours at Allegany College of Maryland) in the summer of participation; possess an overall GPA of 2.7 or above; and, must be available to work for the summer.

 

Cranston Carter Imes is a Senior at Frostburg State University majoring in Political Science and Law & Society. He is extremely passionate about government and politics. Growing up in Allegany County, Mr. Imes is excited to contribute to finding lasting solutions at the local government level.

 

Samantha Vega is a second year Human Services student at Allegany College of Maryland. She is also a Student Ambassador with the Coalition on Adult Basic Education, a national organization dedicated to advancing adult education and literacy opportunities. She is also part of the Peace Studies Club and Democracy Commitment at the college. Ms. Vega has lived in Cumberland for over ten years where she resides with her fiancé and his son.
