Commissioners Pass Resolution That Will Grant County Employees Sick Leave

Acknowledging that there is no choice in the matter, the Allegany County Commissioners voted 2-1 recently to pass a resolution that will grant county employees up to five days paid sick leave. County Administrator Brandon Butler said that the action is a symbolic gesture- with the county required to do so via state mandate. Taking effect this past February, Maryland's Healthy Working Families Act requires employers with 15 or more employees to offer at least one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked to eligible employees.  Employers with 14 or fewer employees must allow comparable unpaid sick and safe leave.
