Allegany County Government announced today that it will continue to seek applications for the 2018 Commissioners’ Fellowship Program until April 30, 2018.  The Program is a 12-week Summer internship program with Allegany County Government.

“Through this program, we are looking for the new great employee of Allegany County Government,” said Brandon S. Butler, County Administrator. “We are already seeing a number of applications for the program, which demonstrates a fantastic response to the investment the Board of County Commissioners has made.”

The Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved the launch of a new program providing Summer internship opportunities for students at Frostburg State University and Allegany College of Maryland at its March 22, 2018 public meeting. The program, which is a partnership with Frostburg State University and Allegany College of Maryland, provides real-life work experience for students attending these institutions of higher learning.

Selected students will work under the direction of the County Administrator and other county staff to develop an understanding of local government. County government will work the students on projects and policy proposals that will ultimately be presented to the County Commissioners at the end of the student’s internship. Selected students will be paid a stipend of $2,000 for their participation in the program.  

In order to be considered, the student must be attending either Frostburg State University or Allegany College of Maryland; must be a rising Junior or Senior (or have at least 30 credit hours at Allegany College of Maryland) in the summer of participation; possess an overall GPA of 2.7 or above; and, must be available to work between May 29 and August 10, 2018.
