Comptroller making stops in LaVale, Lonaconing and Oakland

October 8th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Comptroller Peter Franchot is spending the day in Western Maryland, beginning this morning at High Mountain Sports in Oakland where he presented  the Garrett County Cornerstone Award for Local Business Excellence to owner Steve Green. Since 1987, High Mountain Sports has offered sporting equipment and apparel for all seasons and also provides repairs on bikes, skis, snowboards, kayaks and more.

Mr. Franchot will then visit Lefty Grove Park in Lonaconing to see the recently-unveiled statue of the Hall of Fame local legend that baseball historians consider to be one of the greatest ever left-handed pitchers. While there, he will present a plaque commemorating the 90th anniversary of the 1929 World Series, in which Lefty's Philadelphia Athletics defeated the Chicago Cubs four games to one.

Afterwards, the Comptroller will travel to Lavale to present the Allegany County Cornerstone Award for Local Business Excellence to Lennox East owner Marlene Lennox. One of Maryland's oldest independent formal wear stores, Lennox East sells quality, affordable gowns, dresses and tuxedos for weddings, proms and other special occasions, attracting loyal customers from near and far.

Sounds like someone is running for Governor. At least he knows we’re out here.

Brian, and all you doubtful others: Why don’t you think about running for office and showing them how a real credible citizen should do it. We definitely need NEW BLOOD in our political system.

The reality is – we don’t really matter to the MD politicians a whole lot. There are 9 million people in greater DC/Baltimore. 30 or 40K votes out here in the hinterlands don’t even move the needle.
