Congressman Elijah Cummings has been admitted to Johns Hopkins Hospital.
A statement from the congressman's office says that he is being treated for a bacterial infection in his knee.
According to the statement, doctors drained the infection in a minor procedure on Friday.
Cummings, 66, who represents Maryland’s 7th Congressional District, is said to be resting comfortably and expects a full recovery.
Earlier on Friday, it was announced the Cumming's wife, Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, suspended her run for governor of Maryland due to personal considerations.
