July 28th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Many in the Baby Boomer generation will recall one of the last times there was an illness that made kids sick and spread through schools quickly.  We're talking about the measles.

WCBC News asked West Virginia COVID-19 Czar Dr Clay Marsh to give a comparison of the measles with the Coronavirus…

If there are any parallels, they do not include the one cited. Covid-19 makes old people sick and spreads through nursing homes.

Measle Outbreak years ago…I remember so well. A parent would tell every one her child had the virus and everyone would flock to their home to expose their child to the virus..why, so they’d get sick during the summer and not be ill during the school year. We all survived.
Death was about 1-2 children in 1000 and that would be from secondary occurrences.
Comparing one virus to another…a lot of factors to be consider.
People have contracted this virus taking all precautions. Its out there, people have the virus and have no symptoms. So is children safe even at home. The Academy of Pediatricians has recommended children must go back to school for multiple reasons.
Take precautions, teach them why a mask, hand washing and other recommendations and lets see what happens.

      > That is so funny that people still push that lie about ‘disease parties’ for kids. Anyone in the old days that would dare expose their child to a disease on purpose would be locked up for being mentally ill. Of course looking around at the ignorance now and it’s easy to see why people would fall for such dumb b.s. stories.

Some comments by others here are unclear. Moved from Cumberland to Pittsburgh a few years ago. Allegheny County PA, population about 1.2 million has had zero (-0-) deaths of anyone under 20. Last I counted there were about 3,000+ Covid cases under age 40, with two deaths here in the Pittsburgh area.

Had measles, mumps, chickenpox, etc “back when” and the world did not shut down.

DPM I beg to differ with you…I grew up in a time when families were families. I grew up in a time when people had morale, were patriots, love of God and country, and families were families. I would have no reason to lie thank you. And it wasn’t a disease party. No one was arrested for exposing their children to measles, or mumps and guess what, if you were bad your mom or dad beat your butt. Maybe it was a different time, but it was a good time.
And to you Bob…I went to a private school everyday.

      > As you are replying to my comment to Ray, you presumably are, or think you are, both Carolyn and Ray. This is an odd outcome for a person who claims to have been raised in a proper family.

      > p.s. It was also common knowledge ‘back in the day’ that measles had a good chance of making male children sterile. Not many Mothers would risk not ever having grandkids, so you can drop this Faux News b.s. any time or just keep making a fool of yourself, no matter to anyone.
