County Could Withhold BoE Funds In New Year If Audit Not Completed

November 25th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Update: WCBC News learned over the weekend that the audit is completed but will need to be officially approved by the Board of Education at it's first December meeting before it can be turned over to the county.

In late July the Allegany County Commissioners warned that funding appropriations would be withheld from the Board of Education if the 2019 board audit was not completed by November 1st.  That deadline has passed and while the county has not yet taken action- the state has been withholding some funding from the school board.  The school board was nearly a year late in delivering last year’s audit- and there has been a pattern of late deliveries over several years. The county is unable to finalize its state and federal audits until it receives the board audit- and those late filings negatively impact the counties’ fiscal rating. Commissioners President Jake Shade told WCBC News that he is optimistic the audit will be completed in the near future- if not- the county could begin to withhold funds at the start of the New Year…

    This explains the unusual Sunday meeting. The Board had to meet to get their stories straight when the County came around asking for the audit.
    Rejected ideas;
    Computer problems, used that last year.
    Illness, used that earlier this year.
    Still waiting for Wayne Foote to finish figures for the month of May.
    Held up in traffic due to bridge inspections.
    Spent too much time helping to complete work on Dig Deep Brewery.
    Realized was flipping calendar pages the wrong way.
    Lost track of time binge watching the Impeachment hearings.
    The Board finally settled on, stay tuned!

      > The meeting Sunday was about personnel, not the audit. I’m guessing it was about the arrest of the alleged molester and some information related to that.

    Well said Mac.
    You forgot “a dog ate the audit while they were on a fact finding mission at the pound to see how a “well run org. ” keeps their books.”
    We elected these clowns. If it wasn’t so sad, it would be funny to watch Jake and Co back peddling from their threat to hold back funds. Of course we all know holding funds from the CHILDREN will never happen.
