County Has Balanced Budget In Place For Fiscal 2014

Allegany County, barring any unforeseen circumstances, has a balanced budget in place going into fiscal year 2014- and overall, a number of positives were revealed during the most recent budget work shop.  Although revenues have declined in recent years- there are a number of encouraging signs. Finance Director Jason Bennett reported that the final projected budget reflects increases for the Board of Education; Allegany College of Maryland; HRDC; and the County Library System.  In addition a 3% cola is in place for county employees across the board and a contingency fund of close to $200,000 has been set aside for the proposed increase in school security. An initial plan proposed by the board of education for enhanced school security was approximately a half a million dollars.
