County may fund Vegas Convention Junket for Delegate Buckel

May 9th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County Commissioners public agenda tonight includes  authorizing Delegate Jason Buckel to attend the 2019 International Council of Shopping Centers Retail Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada next weekend. Estimated cost, according to a source, for Buckel and one other person is around $10,000. Indications are that while commisisoners Jake Shade and Dave Caporale will vote to approve the authorization, commissioner Creade Brodie Jr has some concerns and will vote no. Commissioner Shade and County Administrator Brandon Butler declined comment, saying they prefer to wait until this evenings meeting.

Why is the county sending a state official and paying?

So the 2 commissioners aren’t going. This would not be a issue if the commissioners were going instead of a sitting Delegate. Shade and Caporale can take time off since they work for themselves outside of County Government. Of course Buckel works for himself but it would not be appropriate. Besides does Buckel have the state that can cover his trip. Why does the county have to cover his trip anyway.
