County Officials Agree Tax Hikes Not an Option

Although the budget situation is extremely tight, Allegany County officials say the idea of any kind of tax hike is not, and will not be on the table for discussion. With revenues down by more than $450,000- the county’s Finance Director, Jason Bennett, and Administrator, David Eberly will work with staff to find some solutions- with the obvious, and perhaps easiest answer being to dip into the county’s reserve fund to offset the losses. The commissioners have actually implemented small, incremental tax reductions in the past four years, and will so again this year even with the fiscal crunch at hand. Administrator David Eberly said that the likely recommendations will include a tapping of the reserve fund:
