County To Feel Fiscal Impact Of Luke Mill’s Closing

There are a number of uncertainties as this point as to what impact the Luke Mill’s closing will have on Allegany County overall fiscal picture. Finance Director Jason Bennett provided a budget overview to the commissioners during the most recent public meeting and said that one thing that is known- the county will see a decrease of about $310,000 in annual property tax revenue. He says there will be an effect on the annual income tax- but adds that it’s too early to know exactly big a hit the county will have to absorb…

    The 1st victim of the closing isn’t going to be the county. It will be town of Luke after it gets the final property tax payment and no way it could survive as a town soon afterwards. However when the buyer is found then the town won’t be incorporated.
