Court Blocks Appeal on Gerrymandering

August 17th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

Maryland’s Court of Appeals has rejected an appeal by the state’s Democratic Party to stop a referendum on the state’s congressional redistricting map, releasing their brief Friday. Opponents needed 55,736 signatures to appeal the ruling, with the Maryland State Board of Elections certifying 59,201 signatures from those against the map. According to opponents, the map has been gerrymandered to favor Democrats without voters being fairly represented.
