The Allegany County COVID-19 case rate is currently 44.43 cases per 100,000 population, more than double the state rate of 19.39.  Other Western Maryland counties are also experiencing COVID case rates well above the state average with Garrett County at 64.01 cases per 100,000 population and Washington County at 62.14 cases per 100,000.

Health officials continue to encourage county residents to get vaccinated against COVID-19.  Vaccines and booster doses are available locally at pharmacies, urgent care clinics and some primary care providers. The Allegany County Health Department is offering the following COVID-19 vaccinations on a walk-in basis every Wednesday in December from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Allegany County Fairgrounds: 

• First and second doses of Moderna vaccine (age 18 and older)
• First and second doses of Pfizer vaccine (age 12 and older)
• Booster doses of Pfizer vaccine (age 18 and older)

Moderna COVID-19 booster vaccines are available by appointment at the Allegany County Fairgrounds on Wednesdays in December. Interested individuals can register for an appointment at health.maryland.gov/allegany.  To be eligible for a booster vaccine you must be age 18 or older and meet one of the following criteria:

• Received your second dose of Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at least six months ago
• Received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) COVID vaccine at least two months ago

Free drive-thru COVID testing continues at the Allegany County Fairgrounds Ag Pavilion on Mondays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
