Cox and Valentine Discuss Board Funding in Relationship to State

According to state data, Allegany County’s public school system is the 8th best funded system in the state of Maryland, coming in just behind Montgomery County. County Commissioner Bill Valentine brought up those numbers when the school board appeared before the county last week seeking close to a five percent budget increase over last year. Superintendent David Cox says those numbers are based on per pupil expenditure, and the simplest explanation is that it costs more money to educate students in poorer jurisdictions.
