At approximately 2126hrs, officers from the Cumberland Police Department were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 68 eastbound just prior to the Greene Street off ramp. While responding to the scene officers were advised of a second crash involving a Allegany County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle. Officers arrived and located both crashes. The first crash was a single vehicle crash into the guardrail. The second crash occurred when the Deputy stopped at the crash scene and attempted to control traffic. A vehicle entering the area failed to slow and crashed into the rear of the Sheriff’s Office vehicle which was displaying its emergency lighting. No injuries were reported in either crash and the Interstate was shut down for approx. 40 minutes. Cumberland Police Department was assisted by the Cumberland Fire Department who also responded and set up blocking for the emergency personnel investigating both incidents.
