CPD Makes Assault Arrest And Serves Bench Warrant/Criminal Summons

At approx. 0749hrs officers from the Cumberland Police Department were dispatched to a Marion Street residence for an assault.  Officers arrived and made contact with a female who was outside and appeared upset.  The officers spoke with the female who reported that she had been assaulted prior to their arrival.  Officers interviewed both parties and observed physical signs of injuries to the female.  At the conclusion of the investigation Jerry Dewayne Hunt was taken into custody without incident.  Hunt was transported to Police Headquarters for processing.  Hunt was later taken before the District Court Commissioner where he was held on a $8,500.00 bond.

Bench Warrant served on Charles Orville Butler for failing to appear for court.  Butler was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was released pending trial.

Officers served a criminal summons on Phillip Glenn Potter.  The summons was issued after Potter assaulted two police officers and a member of the Cumberland Fire Department on February 7th.  Officers responded with the Fire Department to an Elm Street residence for a medical call.  Officers arrived and made contact with Potter who became irate striking two officers.  He was later transported by the Fire Department Ambulance.  Potter assaulted a member of the ambulance crew while at the hospital.  Officers applied for charges at District Court, the Commissioner issued a criminal summons which was served on this date.  No injuries were reported as a result of the assaults.
