CPD Makes Assault Arrests & Serves Warrants

On January 25, 2018 officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to 221 Baltimore Street for a disturbance.  Upon the officers arrival they made contact with Joey Marie Moore and Donald Lee Buser Jr.  Moore and Buser were advised of the complaint and informed to keep the peace.  Just as officers were leaving the area, Moore started screaming at officers.  Moore was advised several times to lower her voice or she would be arrested.  Moore who failed to obey the officer’s orders was told she was under arrest.   As officers were attempting to place Moore under arrest, Mr. Buser turned toward the arresting officer and shoved the officer with his shoulder.  As a result of this incident, Buser and Moore were placed under arrest.  Both subjects were transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing.  Buser was taken before the District Court Commissioner and held in the Allegany County Detention Center on $1,000 bond.  Moore was cited and released from the station.

Charges: 2nd Degree Assault and Obstructing and Hindering.

Charge: Failure to Obey

 

Domestic Assault Arrest

On January 25, 2018 officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to 403 Ascension Street for a domestic assault.  Upon the officer’s arrival, contact was made with a female victim.  During an investigation into the matter, officers were advised by the victim that she was punched in the face by her son, John Michael Huff.  Officers learned that Huff punched the victim in the face over a marijuana smoking device.  The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault.  Huff was placed under arrest and transported to Cumberland City Police Department for processing.  Huff was processed, served and taken before the District Court Commissioner for his initial appearance.  Huff was released on his own personal recognizance.

Charge: 2nd Degree Assault.

 

Arrest Warrants Served

On January 25, 2018 Cumberland City Police served two arrest warrants on Sean Patrick McElwee, age 39 of Cumberland, Maryland.  On January 20, 2018 officers responded to the Sunshine Laundromat on Greene Street for a theft complaint.   Upon the officer’s arrival, they made contact with the victim inside the Laundromat.  During an investigation officers learned that the victim was doing her laundry when a male suspect entered the establishment.  The suspect briefly spoke with another patron and walked away.  As the victim turned her back the male walked over to her purse, grabbed her wallet and fled the establishment on foot.  The suspect was never located by officers on that date.  Information and evidence related to this case was developed leading to an arrest warrant being issued for McElwee.  

On January 24, 2018 officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to the One Stop Employment located at 138 Baltimore Street for a well being check.  Upon the officers arrival they made contact with a female complainant.  Officers learned from the complainant that Sean McElwee came into the building and sat down in a chair.  The complainant informed officers that McElwee fell out of the chair several times and appeared to be passed out.  When officers contacted McElwee they noted that he urinated in his pants and was not responsive to any questions.  McElwee was eventually transported to the hospital for treatment.  During a search of his person, officers located a package of Suboxone, which is a controlled substance.  Charges were applied for on this date as a result of the Suboxone being found on McElwee’s person.

McElwee was processed, served and taken before a District Court Commission on January 25, 2018.  McElwee was taken to the Allegany County Detention Center and held on a temporary commitment.  McElwee will have a hearing on today’s date to determine his release.

Charges: Theft Less than $1,000 and Possession of CDS not marijuana.
