CPD Makes CDS And Assault Arrests

At approximately 1342 hours an officer from the Cumberland Police Department affected a traffic stop on a vehicle on Pennsylvania Avenue for an equipment violation.  The officer made contact with the operator of the vehicle who was later identified as Algie Darnell Gray. Upon speaking with Gray the officer detected an odor of marijuana coming from the passenger compartment of the vehicle.  A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and during the search a baggie containing suspected crack cocaine was located on the suspect. The officer conducted a field test of the suspected cocaine and it showed a positive result.  Gray was taken into custody without incident and transported to Police Headquarters for processing. Gray was later taken before the District Court Commissioner where he was released pending trial.

Charges: Possession other than marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia

 

At approximately 1537 hours officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to a Columbia Street residence for the report of an assault.  Officers arrived and discovered that the suspect had fled on foot prior to their arrival. Contact was made with the victim who had injuries requiring transport to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by Cumberland Fire Department Ambulance.  Officers searched the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him. Officers interviewed the victim obtaining information about the assault and suspect information. At 1720 hours officers received information about a person at the hospital reporting that he had been stabbed during an assault earlier in the day in Cumberland.  Officers made contact with Daquan Dewayne Corley at the hospital. Officers questioned him about his injuries and about witness statements from the Columbia Street incident. Corley had injuries consistent with the assault which was reported on Columbia Street. Officers stood by with Corley until he was released by hospital staff. Corley was taken into custody and transported to Police Headquarters for processing.  Corley was later transported to the District Court Commissioner Officer for a hearing. Corley was held at the Allegany County Detention Center on a temporary commitment.

Charges: 1st & 2nd Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Destruction of Property, and Disorderly Conduct
