CPD Makes CDS & Assault Arrests

On Monday, January 13th, 2020 a Cumberland Police Officer was on patrol in the area of Baltimore Street when he observed the driver of a vehicle was not wearing a seat belt. The officer stopped the vehicle and contacted the driver who was identified as Michelle Lynn Porter. A K-9 officer also assisted with the stop and a free air sniff of the vehicle was performed. The K-9 alerted on the vehicle for the presence of CDS. A subsequent search was conducted and the in the Porter’s possession was suspected drug paraphernalia. She was issued a criminal citation for possession of CDS paraphernalia and released pending trial.

Assault Arrest

On Monday, January 13th, 2020 the Cumberland Police Department responded to a Park Street residence for the report of an assault. When officers arrived, contact was made with a female victim who stated that she was punched by her roommate who also threatened her with a sword. Officers observed an injury to the victim’s eye. The roommate was identified as William Orva Mosher III. He was arrested and charged with 1st and 2nd degree assault, and dangerous weapon with intent to injure. The sword that Mosher allegedly threatened the victim with was collected as evidence. He was taken to the Allegany County Detention Center to await a bond review before the District Court Commissioner.
