On 12/14/16 Officers with the Cumberland Police Dept responded to a business located in the 700blk of Park St in reference to a shoplifting complaint. Upon arrival Officers contacted store employees who advised that they observed a female place several items into a bag and attempt to leave the store without paying for them. The female was detained and identified as 30 year old Megan Pettit of Lonaconing. Pettit was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Dept where she was issued a MD criminal citation for theft under $1000 and released pending trial in District Court.

 Assault

 

On 12/14/16 at 2:11pm Officers with the Cumberland Police Dept responded to Baltimore St at Liberty St for a report of an assault. Upon arrival Officers contacted a Cumberland City Code Enforcement Officer who advised that they asked a male subject to leave the area for creating a disturbance and cursing. The subject became argumentative with the Officer and attempted to strike them with a closed fist. A struggle ensued with the subject and Cumberland Police Officers arrived on the scene and took the subject into custody without further incident. The subject who was identified as 49 year old Michael Brown was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Dept where he was charged with Second Degree Assault and Disorderly Conduct. Brown was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was released on his personal recognizance pending trial.
