MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT

On Thursday, March 22, 2018 at approximately 10:00 PM, officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to the intersection of Baltimore Avenue, Park Street, and Front Street in reference to a motor vehicle accident which involved a tractor trailer colliding with a telephone.  Upon the officer’s arrival, they observed that the telephone pole located at the intersection of Baltimore Avenue and Front Street had been sheared off and lines were down.  Traffic lights had also been knocked down as a result.  It was determined that the operator had attempted to turn left onto Baltimore Avenue from Front Street and struck a telephone pole in the process.  The operator was identified as Thomas Edward Chittenden, age 56, of Boyds, MD.  No charges are pending.  The Cumberland Street Department and Potomac Edison responded to the scene to make repairs.  Part of the intersection had to be shut down to traffic for approximately four hours.  No injuries were reported.
