Crash on I-81

The Maryland State Police Hagerstown Barrack received a call of a personal injury collision on I-81 southbound at the 2.5 mile marker.  Troopers responded to the location to find that a Subaru Legacy had struck the side of a southbound tractor trailer twice, bouncing off the guardrail and then slamming into the rear of the tractor trailer.  The male operator of the tractor trailer was not injured.  The tractor trailer operator was from Willow Grove, Pa. and was able to remove his truck from the scene with only moderate damage.  The operator of the Subaru, later identified as Mr. William Farhney Umbaugh, 23, of Falling Waters, WV had received only minor injuries, was transported to Meritus Medical Center, and subsequently released.  Umbaugh also had two outstanding warrants for his arrest and was subsequently taken into custody after his hospital release.  The investigation is continuing and is being handled by Senior Trooper Kocevar.
